Made in the 1950s by Adam Hilger Ltd in London, this spectrocomparator is a precision instrument designed to analyze photographic plates of spectra. The measurement takes place along a single direction, allowing us to determine with extreme precision (up to 2 microns) the position of spectral lines and to calibrate the spectrum in wavelength through comparison with known emission spectra.
The plate holder support is sliding and guided by a precision screw, allowing a fluid movement that scrolls the spectrum to the center of the aiming reticle of the fixed telescope. The robust structure and compact design make this instrument a reference for spectroscopic analyses of the period.
